Two of the divisional titles and a runners-up trophy, awarded at the 28th Annual Fr. Marcian Peters Basketball Tournament, are headed back to Harbour Island. Coach Andrew Johnson put together a game plan that landed all of his squads in the championships, played on Saturday. Johnson said the teams came to New Providence with one goal in mind, and that was to capture the overall titles, but, before they could hold up the floating trophies, Johnson knew there were a few teams they would have had to get by. One team in particular was the D.W. Davis Pitbulls, in the junior boys division.

Harbour Island eliminated the Pitbulls, who were the tournament's defending champions in that division, on Friday evening. They moved on to play the T.A. Thompson Scorpions, beating them 29-19 on Saturday. In the primary boys match up against Our Lady's, Harbour Island won 27-19. Their junior girls fell to the H.O. Nash Lions, who went undefeated in the tournament. The Lions won, 23-18. Taking a look back at the primary boys' game, Johnson said: "It was a good game, very competitive. Both teams played well but we were just too strong and too big for the other team.

As for the other team, I am not sure if they play a lot of games but our boys play on a regular basis. We don't only prepare for this tournament, we play in other tournaments, and host a lot of tournaments back home. I am very proud of the junior boys, they played really good. I was really impressed with them on Friday, when they played D.W. Davis. We finally got the monkey off our backs. D.W. Davis has been beating on us for a year or so. It felt good beating them."

The primary girls' title will be placed in Temple Christian Suns trophy showcase. The Suns defeated Freedom School, 21-9. Their senior girls had to settle for second place after falling to the C.R. Walker Knights, 25-28. The intermediate title was captured by the C.I. Gibson Rattlers. They defeated San Salvador, 40-33. Now that they have set the tone as one of the leading Family Island teams, competing at the annual tournament, Johnson extended invitations to all the other squads to come and play in their annual tournament.

The Harbour Island Basketball Championships is set for March, 2013. He feels that more tournaments are needed, giving the players more games. He said: "We will be sending invitations out to teams soon. We want all of them to come and play. This is our first tournament for the year, and we are happy to know that we won. It is not too difficult for us as a Family Island team, coming to these tournaments. We find it easy to put a team together, the only difficult part is the first practice, after that it is smooth sailing for us."
