Minister of National Security Dr. Bernard Nottage said construction on the CCTV command center at police headquarters is in the final stages.
"This is something that we are looking forward to," he said on Thursday.
"The deputy commissioner (Quinn McCartney) is currently abroad assisting and choosing some of the final equipment that we are installing for this purpose and so there is going to be a tremendous change we hope, over the course of the next few months and the capacity and ability of the force to carry out its mandate to keep our country as safe as possible."
Though Nottage admitted all CCTV systems in crime hot spots throughout New Providence won't be up and running when the command center opens.
He could not say when the program will be fully implemented, noting that it will take some time, but Nottage said the initiative would provide coverage in many crime hot spots.
"I think this will have a tremendous impact on protecting people in the various communities particularly those that we call hot spots to see what's going on we identify vehicles, persons," he said.
"We hope that it will help us to know where to go when we get calls etc."
The Ingraham administration signed a $4.6 million contract with Lowe's Security and it's U.S. based partner Avrio RMS Group and Security Centers International for the first phase of the CCTV project.
That phase would provide coverage on Bay Street from Arawak Cay to the Paradise Island bridge.
Commissioner of Police Ellison Greenslade said CCTV will expand the reach of law enforcement in the country.
