U.S. Charg d'Affaires Visits Grand Bahama, Giving To Youth And Schools

 U.S. Chargé d'Affaires John Dinkelman with Sharon Wilson, headmistress at LIS; Rob Fuller, Head of Pre-K to Year 13; Kate Wharton, board member; Vivienne Guthro, board member and the IB Theory of Knowledge Class at LIS.Freeport, Grand Bahama -- On Friday November 16th, the United States Chargé d'Affaires John Dinkelman visited Grand Bahama to participate in several outreach events.   Chargé  Dinkelman's first stop was a visit to the Lucaya International School (LIS) where he held a roundtable with high school students and viewed new security upgrades throughout the campus that were funded through a $100,000 grant provided by the U.S. State Department.

  U.S. Chargé d'Affaires John Dinkelman; Deputy Director of Education on Grand Bahama Mrs. Sandra Edgecombe; Commanding Officer of the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Lt. Nkosi Thomas; officials of the U.S. Embassy, Ministry of Education and students and teachers from the West End Primary School and the East End Primary School.The grant is part of a U.S. Embassy managed security enhancement program with the goal of helping to improve the physical security of international schools with grades K-12 world-wide.

Security enhancements for LIS included improved access control for students and visitors, enhanced security lighting, mobile radio system, surveillance cameras and a state-of-the-art emergency notification public address system.The U.S. Embassy has worked closely with other international schools in The Bahamas to provide similar security enhancements.
