Yesterday after pictures were posted on Facebook people commenting said exactly how they felt about the situation. Greg Lampkin radio personnel wrote "At one point in time there were specific hours in which the surreys were allowed to operate, and specific routes. The breaks between the hours of operation, allowed the horses to rest during the hottest hours of the day. Now I see the surreys out and about, no matter the time of day.

The Bahamas Humane Society cannot police these rules (if they are still in place) by themselves. If specific times of operations are still in effect, then, road traffic officials posted in the area, should be aware of the times, and enforce them"

Brenda Whebby wrote "This should and hopefully go viral on the internet so the world knows how most Bahamians treat their animals..another disgusting episode of animal cruelty in The Bahamas! I volunteered for years at the Humane Society and the things I saw would take you to 3rd world thinking where I feel BS is on the borderline now"

Others defended the the driver of the surrey horse. Dante Hall wrote "This is not Animal Cruelty !!! I Was Right There!! The horse was healthy! The Veterinarian said so when they arrived! The horse had a history of Heart Attacks !k I watched it die, The owner said it went for regular check ups. It ate on time and everything! The horse was known to be The Oldest Horse Downtown... It died of old age!" If what this person said is to be true, then the real question is why was this horse still allowed to pull a carriage.

Eyewitnesses said the animal was 22 year old horse named Bloody Mary, who was drawing a yellow and blue surrey. After the horse's collapse, it was tied to the back of a truck and dragged out of the street.

Kwesi Simth, a Veterinarian on the scene said it was to early to determine what caused the death of the animal. " I would say exhaustion, but it's not that hot out sides" President of The Bahamas Humane Society, Kim Aranha commented on the horses death hinting that the death may have been caused by poor working conditions for carriages. "We have been trying to improve the conditions that these poor animals work in for years"
