Dr. Minnis Survey's Aftermath...VIDEO

Early this morning, Killarney’s Member of Parliament, and Free National Movement Leader,  Hon. Dr. Hubert A. Minnis, hit the road to survey the damage done in the Killarney area in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. It appears that structural damage to homes was very minimal and most of the streets were passable with the exception of West Bay Street between Blake Road and Tropical Gardens road where the sea wall had been broken and the road was severely damaged and impassable.

Motorist travelling from the west are advised to take Tropical Gardens Road to John F. Kennedy drive to avoid the area of debris between Tropical Gardens Road and Blake Road on West Bay Street.

An area off West Bay St., Shakespeare Road in Sea Beach had major flooding. Many areas are still without electricity.

While surveying the area, Dr. Minnis took the time to visit with a Killarney resident, the daughter of the 76-year-old grandmother, who was shot dead as she lay sleeping in her bed on Eneas Street – just off East Street north last night. Dr. Minnis extends sincere condolences to her family members and friends.

For the information of our readers, gas stations currently open include the Shell service station on JFK opposite The Clarence A. Bain Building and the Shell service station at the roundabout near College of The Bahamas and KFC.

Dr. Minnis is thankful that there has been no report of injury or death in the area caused by the storm and he encourages all residents to remain safe and cautious in the aftermath of the hurricane.
