A key investor behind the upcoming $3.5 million Medi Center says the facility is designed to provide a modern, comprehensive facility where patients can receive most of its primary care in one location. According to the facility's managing physician, Dr. Christopher Basden, the 18,000-square-foot medical center, located on Prince Charles Drive and Beatrice Avenue, will assist in keeping medical costs down and have an impact on the delivery of care.

"This will assist greatly in keeping the costs down and providing the type of expedience that patients require. Those are some of the main reasons for taking on this venture," he revealed. Basden pointed out how the new facility will be offering general medial services including dental, laboratory, obstetrics and gynecology.

"We will be providing obstetrics, gynecology and introducing psychiatric services as well for out-patient purposes. We will be providing full dental services that include hygiene, general dentistry and general orthodontic care. Imaging services including x-rays, mammography and ultra sound all in a digital environment will also be provided, along with basic laboratory and pharmaceutical services," Basden added.

The $3.5 million medical facility will have up to 40 employees and 12 doctors. Basden shared with Guardian Business that the new plaza is modeled after a modern approach to general medical facilities. Typically, an Ambulatory Medical Plaza is an outpatient facility that houses general medical practitioners (GPs) to provide ambulatory care and some acute care services, but lacks the major surgical and pre-and post-operative care facilities commonly associated with hospitals.

The Medi Center's chief noted that the facility's primary focus is on the domestic market. The location is set to officially open on September 3 and will be open seven days a week from 8 a.m. until 10 p.m. Officials at the facility will also be hosting a Health Fair on September 8 and September 9 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., where wellness counseling, blood pressure, glucose checks and refreshments will be offered. The Medi Center practice is a partnership between Dr. Nicholas Fox, Dr. James Johnson and Dr. Christopher Basden. These doctors opened The Medi Center's first clinic on Collins Avenue in 1994.
