Flying Fish hosts GBCC's monthly event

On a surprisingly cool July evening, the Grand Bahama Chamber of Commerce (GBCC) members and guests were treated to a wonderful Mix and Mingle (M&M) at the island's newest hot spot, the Flying Fish.

Recently voted the number one restaurant by Trip Advisor for The Bahamas, Flying Fish and owners Tim and Rebecca Tibbitts teamed up with the GBCC to host the monthly business event at their new outside bar.

"The Chamber is delighted that Flying Fish extended the offer to host our monthly M&M at their fabulous restaurant," said Lisa Turnquest, GBCC second vice president. "It's precisely the membership experience we are endeavoring to cultivate.  The role of the Chamber fundamentally is to be a bridge in the business community, networking various companies locally, nationally and internationally.  The turn out was tremendous and we are so pleased with the support."

Guests started arriving from 5 p.m. and packed the outdoor fresco bar that sits on the Lucayan marina, next to Pelican Bay Hotel.

"We are pleased and honored to have had the largest turnout for a M&M," said Head Chef and proprietor Tim Tibbitts. "We are happy to know that the community was interested in coming to take a sneak peak at what we do at Flying Fish.  There were lots of new faces and we hope that we will see some come back to try us for lunch, dinner, Sunday brunch or happy hour, because of the exposure this event brought to us.  The support of the local business community is integral to our success and we appreciate people taking time out of their busy schedules to join us."

The event was one of the largest turnouts for the Chamber and many members enjoyed the opportunity to mingle in such a great atmosphere. "The Flying Fish was a wonderful venue for this event. The Chamber mix and mingles really are a great chance to meet new business people on the island and network," said attendee James Sarles, president of James Sarles Realty.  "The Chamber has a lot of young dynamic business people and it is important that we as a business community come together at events like these, to share ideas and help Freeport succeed.  For those who missed this event you missed a nice evening,  and I encourage you to make an effort to come to the next one."

The local restaurant opened its doors in late February and has been steadily growing its clientele base via the hotels and "snowbird" traffic.  Teaming up with the Chamber gave the restaurant the opportunity to reach out to the business community, and gave the business community the chance to bring their members together in a new environment.

"We would really like to thank the Flying Fish owners and staff for changing the pace of our monthly M&Ms, and we invite others to do the same," said Turnquest. "The Chamber is here to work with the community for the advancement of Grand Bahama as a whole."
