Airport resumes normal service after strike

A TWO-DAY strike by firefighters in the Turks and Caicos Islands that has affected travel in the area is at an end.

The firemen went on strike over moves to transfer them from the Fire Department to the Airports Authority.

The strike affected operations at the airport, leading to several international cancellations and disruption to incoming flights. Some visitors were stranded on the islands due to the action. Some of the firemen went back to work to allow international flights to continue on a limited basis, but domestic flights continued to be affected.
