A jury yesterday unanimously convicted a man accused of robbing the owner of a grocery store chain.
Prosecutors alleged that Clifford Miller held up Rupert Roberts, the owner of Super Value Food Stores Ltd., when he burglarized his home on March 3, 2010.
Miller allegedly robbed Roberts of his Chevy Trailblazer SUV, valued at $20,000, along with $800 cash while armed with a screwdriver.
The prosecution, led by Ambrose Armbrister, produced a videotaped confession statement. In the statement, Miller said that he entered the home by breaking a window on the second floor. He said he picked up a screwdriver off a desk, went into a bedroom and asked Roberts for money.
However, during the trial Miller claimed police beat him to obtain the confession.
Senior Justice Jon Isaacs will sentence Miller on March 14. Dorsey McPhee represented him.
