KFC stores remain closed but resolution appears near

Minister of Labour Dion Foulkes said last night that management of Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) Nassau and the hotel union were "significantly closer" to resolving their labor dispute which resulted in KFC stores being closed all week.
But the stores were still closed up to last night and there was no clear indication when the nine outlets would re-open.
Foulkes said he met for four hours yesterday with the representatives from the union and KFC.
"I thought we made good progress on all of the issues in dealing with the new contract," Foulkes told The Nassau Guardian.
"There were several compromised positions that I suggested to both sides to consider and they both agreed to consider the proposals over the weekend."
He added, "We also spoke about the opening of the stores. I made a recommendation to management and I do not want to prejudge what they are going to do, but I think both sides were very mature and respectful, and I thought discussions went extremely well."
KFC Nassau closed its nine outlets on Monday "until further notice" as a result of a "labor disruption", according to the company.
The fast food franchise has said the workers were engaged in an illegal strike, but the union has repeatedly denied this.
The hotel union and KFC representatives will meet on Monday at 10 a.m. to resume negotiations, according to Foulkes.
