Executive members of the Bahamas Cricket Association (BCA) are trying to stay ahead of the game, by pre-planning the 2012 season now.
With only a few weeks remaining in the season, cricket manager Gregory Taylor Sr., said that setting next year's calendar at this time will ensure that all the events and tournaments are hosted without interrupting the league. Outside of the BCA season, two of the national teams will compete on the regional and international levels. A two-week tour for the senior national team will be held in February, while the Under-19 team will head to Suriname to play in the Americas Tournament, in August.
"We plan to start the season early next year, around February," said Taylor Sr. "We had the T-20 tournament first, that was a success. This tournament, that will finish in a few weeks, was 40 and over but we only got to play one round. That is why we are looking to start early next year, and play more in the cool weather rather than playing in the summer when it is extremely hot. We will use the same format as in the past where we play 40 and over, as suppose to the 50 and over.
"Since we are starting early next year, we will probably hold the 50 and over first. As we move along, we will have the 40 and over.
We are also looking at doing a T-20 at 3 p.m. in the evening, when it is not to hot. That will be just 20 overs in that league. When that concludes, we will finish the league with the 40 and over play. We are hoping to have about two or three months of that."
The regular season will conclude in two weeks with the championships set for the following Sunday. The top two teams will advance to the championship round.
Leading the league this year is the Police Royals who picked up another win on Sunday, over St. Agnes. In that match, which was held at Windsor Park, St. Agnes batted first putting up 277 runs. The Royals wickets came alive during their chance to bat. The team scored 28 runs. Gregory Taylor Jr., and Marc Taylor were the leading batsmen.
The Royals are leading the division. They will play St. Albans on Sunday at 10:30 a.m., at the Windsor Park, on Wulff Road.
