50 Deliquencies Deter Credit Unions on Microfinance

BAHAMIAN credit unions "must look at" getting back into microfinance lending, a leading executive said yesterday, having recoiled from the sector due to high loan delinquencies that at one point exceeded 50 per cent of the portfolio.

Stephanie Missick, general manager of the Bahamas Credit Union League, told Tribune Business of microfinance for small Bahamian businesses and entrepreneurs: "It's certainly an area that credit unions must look at. The whole issue of microfinance is an issue credit unions will have to continue to look at and see how we can service the community.
