As the weeks quickly roll by and the departure date for our Bahamian Olympic Team draws ever near, excitement and anticipation levels mount. Determined to help see our athletes once again blaze a trail of glory, Furniture Plus a local, Bahamian owned company has stepped forward to assist the valiant efforts being made by the Bahamas Olympic Association?s fundraising committee.

Entrusted with the goal of raising the necessary funds to see our Olympic Team through to this year?s games in Beijing, China, the BOA is coming down to the last stretch and looking for additional support.

In the spirit or partnership, Furniture Plus recently donated two thousand dollars to the BOA, but realizing the need for greater assistance from Corporate Bahamas, the company has muscled up a fierce determination to help in more ways than one. They have embarked on a National campaign to rally the support of other corporate entities and citizens particularly those in Nassau and Grand Bahama where the Furniture Plus stores are located.

According to the chairman of the BOA fundraising committee, Mr. Harcourt ?RIP? Rolle, this move comes just in time, as the organization is making a wide appeal to corporate Bahamas to raise the final funds to get our athletes positioned on the Olympic world stage

Flexing it?s corporate resources Furniture Plus is using radio, print and website advertising to remind Bahamians of our responsibility to support our team, and the opportunity we have as a country to show the world ?our monumental athletic talent.? Through the mediums of radio, print and the internet, Furniture Plus is seeking to energize the public and invite direct donations from local businesses. The company has donated the use of its advertising time to promote the cause, and also garnered the kind support of More 94, and Mix 102 and Cool 96, (out of Grand Bahama.) These companies have come onboard and provided additional airtime to help jumpstart the campaign and get the message into the community.

In addition to hopefully passing the ?sponsorship baton? to new and eager team players, Furniture Plus has established in-store ?Dollar Days? for the general public to also get involved. According to President of Furniture Plus, Mr. Troy d?Arville, the ?Dollar Days? create ?a wonderful opportunity for community outpouring and gives everyone the chance to feel proud and a part of the engine helping to drive support for the BOA, and ultimately give all our Olympic dreams flight.?

By creating collection depots at both the Nassau, (Town Centre Mall) and Grand Bahama (Madeira Croft) locations, Scott Ferguson, the proprietor of the Grand Bahama store notes, ?both our locations allow the public the convenience of a no-hassle drop off point, and because charity begins at home everyone can afford to prove it by giving just a dollar or more?even kids!?

?In the past the BOA has relied heavily on Corporate Bahamas and their support is critical, but we also see the potential for involvement from everyone, with the invitation for them to give at their own comfort level. We have the power as a people to make things happen,? says Mr. Rolle.

Citing high hopes, the Director of Marketing & Sales for Furniture Plus, Ms. Krystynia Lee d?Arville remarks, ?It?s a momentous idea, and certainly has the potential to be as successful as we all endeavor to make it. There is no better time than now to lend your support to the BOA and get in gear to give. This will make sure our athletes who have invested years of intense training and much sacrifice, get the chance they deserve to go for the gold, and Furniture Plus is proud to help in any and every way possible.?

Businesses interested in making donations to Team Bahamas can contact Harcourt Rolle, Treasurer of the BOA directly at 322-1595 and others wishing to support the ?Dollar Day? campaign can stop into any of the Furniture Plus locations to do their part. All things considered, it all boils down to this: It only takes a dollar from citizens just like you to make a Bahamian Olympic dream come true!
