An upscale international news magazine known for its stunning photography of the finest places in the world to visit or live has named The Bahamas one of the best in the region and one of the country’s most successful real estate brokers the expert source to rely on.
In its April edition, Travel & Leisure -- devoured by more than 4.8 million readers with a penchant for travel and a pocketbook to afford the finest -- listed The Bahamas as one of the nine best choices to buy a home.
“If you want a second home that’s easily accessible from the East Coast, look no further than The Bahamas,” Travel & Leisure advised after speaking with four leading real estate agents throughout the region.
One of those experts – and the only one from The Bahamas – was Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate partner Timothy Smith, whose sales record has placed him among the top one percent four times, landing him among the top 120 out of a field of 120,000 worldwide. agents
According to Mr. Smith, the natural beauty of the nation combined with its geographic location make it an absolute winner.
“The Bahamas is very desirable due to its natural beauty and geographic location. Its close proximity to the United States and numerous direct flights into the country's international airport create high demand from real estate buyers worldwide,” Smith is quoted as saying. And a second expert, Jeremy Hurst, president of IRG International, confirmed Smith’s assessment, adding that the country “offers a diverse range of property options, from turnkey marina residences in Nassau to ultra-private estates across the Exumas,” in addition to offering “established residency pathways tied to real estate investment.”
Both experts noted strong demand, but BHGRE MCR Bahamas founder Mario Carey said the firm was especially proud that the article led off with Mr. Smith’s words.
“There are thousands of real estate professionals in the region, so when Travel & Leisure wanted to do a story on the best places to buy a home and they chose Tim Smith as one of three experts to provide insight out of all those thousands in the field, it was a moment of extreme pride for all of us at the firm,” Mr. Carey said.
Smith’s commitment and sales record have paved a steady trajectory since he joined the firm in 2016. In three years, he became a top producer and in 2021, he made partner.
He credits a strong support team, while the founding partner – whose own career includes nearly $3 billion in transactions – says Smith’s work ethic and constant market analysis puts him in a category by himself.
Now Smith’s confidence in The Bahamas is reaching a larger international audience.
“When choosing an island to buy a home in the Caribbean, I think there are a lot of factors that come into consideration,” Smith told Travel & Leisure readers. “Some of these factors include the availability of international airports and direct flights from large cities. Other factors include desirable weather, a stable government, a robust real estate market, and a common time zone with major business regions.”
Other destinations that ranked high in the region included Nevis, primarily because of its path to citizenship, St. Bart’s and St. Lucia.
