139,000 Bahamians Voted in 2026, 12,612 more than 2021

The 2026 general election produced 12,612 votes more than 2021 with 139,026 ballots counted and a 66.4% voter turnout, according to official results released by the Parliamentary Registration Department (PRD).

PRD states, “there were 139,026 votes counted for a voter turnout of 66.4 percent” and “there were 209,264 voters on the register this time around.”

A total of 140,243 electors voted, with spoilt and protest ballots accounting for the difference between votes cast and votes counted.

Overall Party Performance

Progressive Liberal Party (PLP)

  • 71,245 votes (51% of votes cast)
  • Elected with support from 34% of all registered voters
  • 33 of 41 seats won
  • Nearly identical to its 2021 performance, when it also secured 34% of registered voters

 

Free National Movement (FNM)

  • 48,863 votes (35% of votes cast)
  • Supported by 23% of registered voters
  • Won 8 seats, one more than in 2021

 

Coalition of Independents (COI)

  • 17,095 votes (12% of votes cast)
  • Supported by 8% of registered voters
  • More than doubled its 2021 vote total (8,388)

 

Key Constituency Highlights

Pinewood

Lincoln Bain delivered the COI’s strongest performance, but PLP incumbent Myles LaRoda held the seat with 41% (1,497 votes). Bain received 1,137 votes, ahead of the FNM’s 986. 

Cat Island, Rum Cay & San Salvador

Prime Minister Philip Davis increased his margin, winning 80% of the vote (1,014 votes), up from 70% in 2021.

Exuma & Ragged Island

Deputy Prime Minister Chester Cooper won with 63.6% (1,852 votes), though down from 73% in 2021.

Centreville

PLP’s Jomo Campbell dominated with 74% (2,093 votes), improving on his 67% share in 2021.

Englerston

Glenys Hanna‑Martin secured 72% (1,908 votes), slightly down from 75% in 2021.

St. Barnabas

Michael Halkitis delivered one of the PLP’s biggest gains, jumping from 45% in 2021 to 70% (1,889 votes).

Killarney

One of the tightest races:

  • FNM’s Michela Barnett‑Ellis – 1,995 votes (39.3%)
  • PLP’s Robyn Lynes – 1,963 votes
  • Dr. Hubert Minnis (Independent) – 562 votes

 

Marco City

FNM Leader Michael Pintard won decisively with 58.6% (2,537 votes), the strongest FNM showing nationwide.

Freetown

One of the PLP’s few losses: FNM’s Lincoln Deal won with 41% (1,225 votes), defeating incumbent minister Wayne Munroe.

New, Redrawn, and Notable Races

St. James (New Constituency)

PLP’s Owen Wells won with 46.4% (1,620 votes), defeating FNM Deputy Leader Shanendon Cartwright, who received 1,477 votes.

Golden Isles

PLP’s Darron Pickstock retained the seat with 47.2% (2,101 votes), following boundary changes since the 2025 by‑election.

West Grand Bahama

PLP’s Kingsley Smith won comfortably with 55.9% (1,997 votes), continuing momentum from his 2023 by‑election victory.

Bimini & Berry Islands (New Seat)

PLP’s Randy Rolle won with 51.9% (946 votes).

Long Island

FNM’s Dr. Andre Rollins won with 51% (725 votes), succeeding Adrian Gibson, who did not run due to an ongoing trial.

Family Islands Overview

Across Abaco, Andros, Eleuthera, and the southern islands, PLP incumbents generally held their ground, though several saw reduced margins compared to 2021. Examples include:

  • Central & South Abaco: PLP’s Bradley Fox Jr. won with 44.3% (1,338 votes).
  • North Abaco: PLP’s Kirk Cornish retained the seat with 36.8% (1,163 votes).
  • Central & South Eleuthera: PLP’s Clay Sweeting won with 56% (1,968 votes).
  • North Eleuthera: PLP’s Sylvanus Petty won with 48.7% (1,359 votes).

Overall Takeaway

The 2026 general election reaffirmed the PLP’s dominance, with the party securing 33 of 41 seats despite receiving support from just one‑third of registered voters. The FNM held its core strongholds and added one seat, while the COI significantly expanded its national vote share but failed to win a constituency.

The election also marked:

  • Increased participation compared to 2021
  • Strong performances by PLP incumbents across New Providence and the Family Islands
