The Bahamas Department of Meteorology has reissued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning from 9:50 AM to 11:50 AM, Saturday 16th May 2026.

A Severe Weather Warning remains in effect for Exuma Cays, Cat Island (between Arthur’s Town and McQueen’s), and now includes New Providence along with its adjacent waters and cays.

The Severe Weather Warning for Andros Island has been discontinued.

A Severe Weather Watch remains in effect across portions of the Northwest Bahamas and Central Bahamas.

At 9:30 AM, lightning detection, observation, radar, and satellite imagery continued to depict clusters of heavy showers and embedded thunderstorms either forming across or moving eastwards towards the warning areas. These showers and thunderstorms are associated with troughing and streaming tropical moisture.

Some of these showers will be locally heavy and thunderstorms will be strong and severe at times causing strong gusty winds, dangerous lightning, heavy downpours, possible hail, waterspout and/or tornadic activity. Localized flooding is also possible during these storms.

Boaters in the warning areas should seek safe harbor and residents should stay indoors and away from windows when conditions worsen. Residents should not seek shelter under trees or in water as these can become lightning conductors.
