Thriving conch in North Bay of Sampson Cay, Exuma

Mon, Mar 2nd 2026, 11:50 AM

Conch depends on the turtlegrass meadows that blanket the Exuma banks, a living foundation that feeds them, shelters them, and stabilises the ocean floor. These seagrass beds filter the water, hold the sand in place, and create a nursery where conch can mature. When we dredge these meadows, we don’t just disturb the sand, we erase the very habitat conch needs to survive. In the untouched shallows of North Bay, the we can see how abundant and resilient nature can be so long as we protect the seabed that sustains it.

The Save Exuma Alliance stands firmly behind preserving nature and the environment. These underwater treasures must remain untouched so they can continue to thrive for decades to come.
