Zanté Ferguson, a student at Queen’s College, took home the Paul L. Adderley Award for Best Bahamas General Certificate of Secondary Education Examinations (BGCSE) 2025 Overall Performance of The Commonwealth of The Bahamas with 12 As and One B at the Ministry of Education & Technical Vocational Training Examination & Assessment Division Annual National Awards for the Junior National Certificate (BJC) and BGCSE Examinations 2025 held at Greater Bethel Cathedral on Monday, February 16, 2026.
Ms. Ferguson also took home the Carol Hanna Award for Best Overall Performance in the 2025 BGCSE Examinations for Independent Schools. Her career goal is to become a Chemical Engineer.
Amaya Boodoo, a former student of N.G.M. Major High School, received the Marjorie Davis Award for the Best Overall Performance in the 2025 BGCSE Examinations for Government Schools with 6As and One B. She is currently attending Calvin University with a career goal of becoming a Pharmaceutical Engineer.
Raymiro Bain, a student of D.W. Davis Junior High School with dreams of becoming a Chemical Engineer, received the 2025 Best Overall Performance for a Male in the BJCs for Government Schools with 9As and One C.
Jewell Clintia Catherine Adderely, a student from H.O. Nash Junior High School, received the award for Best Overall BJC results from the Government High Schools, earning 9As and 2Bs. Her career goal is to become an Entrepreneur, Animator or Graphic Designer.
There was a four-way tie for the students from Independent Schools receiving the top award in the BJC Examinations with 10As.
Taylor Alexis Dawn Arnold, a student from Temple Christian School wants to become an Illustrator, Animator, Artist or Architect; Tracy Felicia Johnson, a student from Kingsway Academy wants to become an Orthodontist; Emma Williams, a student from Queen’s College wants a career in Anesthesiology or Family Medicine and Antinique Miller, a student from Nassau Christian Schools wants to become a Software Engineer.
The Minister of Education, the Hon. Glenys Hanna-Martin said the point of the exercise was to celebrate all of the award recipients for their outstanding performance in the 2025 national examinations.
“It is so pleasing to see that these high achievers we celebrate this morning come from both public and private schools and several are from Family Island Schools.
“This demonstrates broad based attainment across the nation. This is what we hope and work for as we intensify this movement for student success across this nation.”
She explained that these results will most likely open doors to tertiary education and scholarships for the awardees.
The Minister encouraged all of the awardees to continue pressing towards their goals and believe that with God everything is possible.
Ministry of Education Permanent Secretary, Lorraine Armbrister; top Education officials; sponsors of prizes for the top students including Customs Computers Limited, Micronet Business Technology, Right Worshipful District Grand Master of the District Lodge of The Bahamas, Scottish Constitution, and proud parents, family members and friends also attended the ceremony.
