This Wednesday, February 4 at 7pm, The Organization for Responsible Governance (ORG) will host a public webinar called “Impacts of VAT.” It will bring together a diverse panel of local experts to explore Value Added Tax (VAT)’s long-term economic and social implications on the Bahamian economy, households, and governance; as well as its role in public finance and national development.
Panelists include: Therese Turner-Jones, economist and development finance expert; Dr. Leo Rolle, Chief Executive Officer of the Bahamas Chamber of Commerce and Employers Confederation; Dr. Keisha Ellis, University of The Bahamas adjunct professor and outgoing Executive Director of Hands for Hunger; and Don Sargent, political and social analyst and Assistant Director of Communications at the Ministry of Tourism, Investments, & Aviation (MOTA).
Journalist Rachel Knowles-Scott will moderate the discussion, which aims to inform and engage the public on what has been a hot-button topic of conversation in recent weeks.
The webinar supports ORG’s ongoing mission to promote good governance, transparency, and informed civic participation by equipping citizens with the knowledge needed to engage meaningfully in national policy discussions.
“ORG recognizes that right now, as a country, we’re in the middle of a critical conversation,” said Executive Director Matt Aubry. “VAT is something that affects all Bahamians, and we want to help Bahamians feel more connected to the ongoing dialogue about their taxes. This webinar is meant to create a space to encourage the public to get informed and get involved in that dialogue as our leaders plan our country’s path forward.”
The “Impacts of VAT” webinar is free and open to the public. People can tune in live on ORG’s Facebook page (ORG Bahamas Foundation) on Wednesday, February 4 at 7pm. Alternatively, they can watch using the Zoom link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/85125124135.
