Spooktacular Weekend Ahead

Fri, Oct 28th 2011, 11:21 AM

October 31, the scariest time of the year is upon us again and if the sudden appearance of witches, goblins, zombies and ghouls aren't enough to get you spooked then who knows what will. This frightful season known as All Hallows' Eve, or more popularly Halloween, is said to come from various origins in the 11th century but has since become a more secular celebration of costuming and merry-making.

If you are one of the many who love to use this occasion as the perfect reason to put on a costume but do not know where to go there are enough fun events out there to put the scare in your weekend.

Till Death do us Part
This Halloween will be all about classy elegance if you are heading to the 'Till Death Do Us Part' party at Provence in Sandyport tonight. From fun costuming, make-overs, an open bar and prizes all night long, it will all add up to a stellar night out with the girls or that special someone in your life.

Coordinator  Joconda Williams says this is an affair to die for and will cater to the more upscale crowd looking for a fun night on the town.  "We are planning a night brimming with activities and fun. It will be something you will not want to miss," she says. "So whether you choose to dress up or just come out to have a good time, you can get the added touch to your look with a fun make-over from Eye-Candy make-up artists. You will look as scary or as sweet as you want but at the end of the night you will be happy."

What will make this event hosted by the Bahamas Bridal Association stand out from the others will be that once you are in, everything thereafter is inclusive. This means drinks, pictures and food from the tapas menu will be available to you all night long. Prizes throughout the night include a two-night stay at a hotel, dinner for two at Lucianos and dinner for two at Provence. You will not want to miss it because this will be the place to be.

"This is something persons looking for a clean good time this Halloween weekend will enjoy," says Williams. "Unlike how you pay for a typical Friday night outing and night on the town, coming here instead to let it all out and be in good company will cost you far less and you will have a great time. It's going to be a great event."  Tickets are $75 at the door or $60 in advance and can be purchased at Provence Restaurant in Sandyport or Eye Candy Studio on the corner of Rosetta Street and Hawkins Hill.

Haunted Bowling
Since this scarily good weekend is really about kiddie fun, you can let them get their spook on by taking them to Mario's Bowling and Entertainment Palace so they can have a spooktacular time.  From the scary maze to the haunted decorations, your kids are bound to have a real fright night at the popular hot spot on Saturday from 12 noon. There will be lots of fun and games from a bouncing castle, half-priced bowling, free popcorn, goodie bags, a costume contest with cash prizes and much, much more.

In the evening the teens are encouraged to come out to get their dose of fun and scares. A spooky dance contest, deathly scary maze and costume contest are all on the menu for this age group. Mario's really plans to make this a special family night where everyone will be happy.

"But don't think that only kids will be having a ball. On Friday night from 9 p.m. we are catering to the adult crowd. So don't bring your kids out until Saturday when their fun will really start," says manager Leslia Miller.

"On Friday night we are inviting all the adults to come out and just have a good time. Dress up and be as child-like and excited as you want. Try your hand at the haunted maze and get a scary surprise at the end. The person with the best dress costume will win a $500 prize and the second best will get $300 and the third best a $200 prize. There will also be a lot of other giveaways as well like cases of Heineken and other great prizes. This will be a fun grown folks night so you do not want to miss it."

Trick-or-Treating at the Mall at Marathon

If you aren't into all the glitz and glamor and truly believe the season is for the kids, then spending it trick-or-treating at the mall is the classic way to go. Instead of driving around or walking your kids door to door to collect treats, numerous candy stations will be available in a one-stop location if you go to the mall. For some parents who don't want their kids to miss out on the fun but are wary of safety now-a-days, a fun night out at the mall will be the best bet.
Mother of three Debbie Allen says she will taking advantage of the mall trick-or-treating so she can get some shopping done at the same time.

"I don't know what anyone else is doing but I will be at the mall letting my kids have a good time trick-or-treating while I go to the different stores," she says. "For one they will be excited to come with me.  "The whole neighborhood candy collecting doesn't settle too well with me anymore with all the things going on so I am happy that the mall, an enclosed and pretty safe place, is having the trick-or-treat event again. My kids always love it and I enjoy it because I get some things out of the way. There is nothing better and cheaper than this to me."

To kick this scary weekend off right their newest location The Green Parrot Pub on East Street, north will be hosting a party to curl your toes and put shivers down your spine.  "This will be so great," says Lindsay Farrington, Green Parrot's worker. "We will be offering so many things the regulars expect and extras that will surprise them. The person who comes with the best costume gets a $100 bar tab all night and we have our regular drink specials to keep the fun going all night long.

"We have lots of fun shots the crowd will like such as the Skittles shot or the Jugger bomb and of course The Green Parrot Pub special shot--the shot of respect.
