The Bahamas welcomed United States Ambassador-Designate Herschel Walker, 63, the first to be confirmed to this country in 15 years.

Mr. Walker, who was accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Julie Walker, arrived from Miami on a Falcon 50 aircraft at Jet Nassau terminal on Wednesday, December 3, 2025 about 2:30pm.

Officials presented welcome gifts of a football, bouquet of flowers, and also Bahamian books, as they disembarked.

They were met by officials of the Bahamas Ministry of Foreign Affairs -- Director General of Foreign Affairs Jerusa Ali and Acting Chief of Protocol Celeste Evans-Williams.

Present was US Deputy Chief of Mission Kimberly Furnish, and her husband Mr. Michael Dowgiewicz; also senior officials of the US Embassy.

Mr. Walker's presentation of official credentials to the Governor General in a few days will begin his tour-of duty as an accredited Ambassador to The Bahamas.

A United States Ambassador serves as the United States President’s personal representative to a foreign country or international organization. This role, as highest-ranking diplomat, is central to the nation’s foreign policy: ambassadors are instrumental in shaping international relations and advancing American interests globally.

The Bahamas established diplomatic relations with the United States in 1973, following its independence from the United Kingdom.

Mr. Walker, a former NFL star and political candidate, was in October 2025 confirmed by the US Senate as the next Ambassador to The Bahamas.  He fills a post that has been vacant by US Ambassador Nicole Avant under the Obama Administration from 2009 to 2011.

A native of Augusta, Georgia, his professional football career began in the United States Football League with the New Jersey Generals, from 2019 to 2020; he served as co-chair of the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition under the Trump Administration.
