Urban Renewal Commission Honors Mothers with Special Luncheon on Grand Bahama

Mon, May 19th 2025, 10:11 AM

The Urban Renewal Commission continued its Mother’s Day observances with a heartfelt luncheon at the Eight Mile Rock High School gymnasium, celebrating the vital contributions of mothers to society.

The event brought together 200 mothers from across the island, including West End and Eight Mile Rock, for an afternoon filled with food, entertainment, and community spirit. The initiative, endorsed by the Urban Renewal Authority, marked a shift in approach this year by bringing the celebrations directly to the mothers, aiming to foster camaraderie and deeper community engagement.

Staff of the Urban Renewal Authority prepared and served meals as a gesture of appreciation, honoring mothers for their essential role in raising children, instilling moral values, and shaping the next generation.

The Urban Renewal Authority noted that this year’s observance was designed to reach mothers on a more personal level, showing gratitude and support to those on whose shoulders many of us stand.

Member of Parliament for East Grand Bahama and Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry for Grand Bahama, Kingsley Smith, Jr., commended the organizers and reflected on the influence of his own mother. He pledged to address concerns raised by attendees, committing to follow up with individual support where needed.

Of the seven Urban Renewal centers on the island, five were set to host similar events, culminating in Mother’s Day festivities in High Rock, May 14, 2025.
