Following another close race for the Local Government seat in the Eight Mile Rock East Township at Polling Division #13, Shantell Forbes emerged the winner in the run-off held on Tuesday, February 11, 2025.

Local Government officials expected an increase in voter turnout the second time around after Forbes and her opponent, Marvette Russell, pulled off a tie with 54 votes in the first election on January 23.

The recount on Wednesday, February 12, revealed that Forbes pulled in 78 votes and Russell, 77.

A meeting is expected to take place next week with the remaining Town Committee members for the Eight Mile Rock East Township when the chairman, deputy chairman and two councillors are expected to be elected.

Following which, a second meeting will be held with the full complement of the nine councilors when the chief councilor and deputy will be decided.
