The Pan American Development Foundation and the United States Embassy conducted a Royal Bahamas Police Force Domestic Violence Certification Course for which they held a graduation ceremony, November 22, 2024 at the American Corner of the Harry C. Moore Library, University of The Bahamas.

This  course curriculum was crafted for police officers in The Bahamas and comprised instruction on: Intake, Assessment, Treatment Planning and Documentation for Domestic Violence Facilitators, Basic Counseling Skills, Crisis Intervention, Case Management and Trauma Informed Care.

Seventeen officers of the police force participated from various divisions and islands; they were introduced to the proper process of screening, assessing and referral to treatment for domestic violence victims.

The information received is geared towards preparing officers to handle a domestic violence complaint from the station level to initial treatment and recovery process.  This ensures that each step is sufficiently monitored resulting in a greater chance for positive end results.

Insp. Jackeria Evans spoke on behalf of the graduates on the key information learned and the importance of implementation going forward.

ACP Janet Mckenzie charged the officers that they are change agents and to perform their duties with added professionalism and care given the new skills acquired.

ACP Dr. Chaswell Hanna spoke to the importance of consistent training and development for all officers throughout the organization.

Key speakers included Todd Christiansen, INL Director, US Embassy, Nassau; and Ms. Antoinette M. Brown, who gave the keynote address expressing gratitude to the organizers and facilitators for providing officers with the tools they need to effectively and efficiently deal with domestic violence victims.
