BTC has inaugurated its annual Junior Achievement program for 2024 in New Providence, focusing on the theme, “Inspire, Prepare, and Succeed.” This initiative underscores BTC’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of Bahamian business leaders.
The achievers have branded themselves as BTC F.L.Y.E (Fearless, Limitless, Young Entrepreneurs), reflecting on their ambitious aspirations. They have also selected the members of their executive team that will lead the program.
Nyah Seymour, a twelfth-grade student and third year BTC JA achiever was elected as this year’s president. She shared her thoughts for the program: “My vision for BTC F.L.Y.E is to empower every participant to grow beyond their initial capabilities. Whether it is boosting your confidence, expanding your knowledge, or developing your communication skills, I want each achiever to experience significant personal growth. I am committed to uplifting and supporting all achievers and ensuring that they each can flourish and reach their full potential during our time together.”
The achievers are already out of the gate and have already hosted their first successful fundraiser - a cake sale at BTC’s Mall at Marathon and Southwest Plaza locations.
BTC’s continues to demonstrate its dedication to youth development through volunteerism, providing a safe and creative environment for achievers, and offering practical insights into business management.
Indira Collie, BTC’s Executive Senior Manager of Communications emphasized the program’s value: “Junior Achievement serves as a vital launchpad for aspiring entrepreneurs, equipping them with essential skills and knowledge. We are happy to bring this transformative program once again to students in New Providence. This year, we are seeing unprecedented enthusiasm from achievers, who are approaching the program with innovative ideas. Their fresh perspectives and eagerness to learn are truly inspiring, and we are excited to see how they will leverage this experience to shape their future careers and contribute to the country’s business landscape.”
BTC has been a supporter of Junior Achievement since its inception in the country, over forty years ago. Kenton Lightbourn serves as the company’s Executive Advisor for BTC. Lightbourn serves as a member of the Finance team at BTC and has been involved in the program for more than a decade.
