Tropical Storm Warning is now in effect for portions of the Central Bahamas, including, Long Island, Rum Cay, and San Salvador.
A Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect for portions of the Southeast Bahamas, including Crooked Island, Acklins, Long Cay, Ragged Island, Mayaguana, and Inagua.
A Tropical Storm Warning means that Tropical Storm conditions could be experienced on these islands within 36 hours or are being experienced.
At 8 PM EDT, the center of Tropical Storm Oscar was located near latitude 21.4 degrees north and longitude 75.7 degrees west, or about 90 miles north-northwest of Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, or about 140 miles west-northwest of Matthew Town, Inagua, or about 270 miles south southeast of New Providence.
Oscar is moving toward the north-northeast near 7 MPH. A faster northeastward motion is expected on Tuesday and Wednesday. On the forecast track, the center of Oscar is expected to move near the Southeast and Central Bahamas on Tuesday.
Maximum remains near 40 MPH with higher gusts. Some slight strengthening is possible during the next day or so.
Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 90 miles from the center.
Residents in the Central Bahamas and portions of the Southeast Bahamas, including Long Island, Rum Cay, San Salvador, Crooked Island, Acklins, Long Cay, Mayaguana, Inagua, and Ragged Island, should have completed all preparations for possible tropical storm conditions tonight.
IMPACTS:
Tropical Storm conditions include heavy rainfall and thunderstormswith possible tornadic activity. Residents could also experience floodingas rainfall amounts of 3 to 5 inches, with isolated amounts of 8 inches, are expected, particularly in the Southeast Bahamas.
