Severe Thunderstorm Warning And Watch Update

THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY HAS ISSUED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING AND WATCH FROM 10:00 AM TO 12:00 PM, TUESDAY 11TH JUNE, 2024.

A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING IS NOW IN EFFECT FOR BIMINI ALONG WITH THEIRADJACENT WATERS AND CAYS.

A SEVERE WEATHER WATCH IS IN EFFECT FOR NORTH ANDROS AND NOW INCLUDES GRANDBAHAMA ALONG WITH THEIR ADJACENT WATERS.

AT 9:55 AM, LIGHTNING DETECTION, RADAR, AND SATELLITE IMAGERY CONTINUED TO DEPICT ANEWLY FORMED CLUSTER OF SHOWERS AND EMBEDDED THUNDERSTORMS EMANATING FROMOVER THE GULF STREAM AND THE NORTHERN GREAT BAHAMA BANK, MOVINGNORTHEASTWARDS TOWARD AND ACROSS THE WARNING AND WATCH AREAS. THESE SHOWERSAND THUNDERSTORMS ARE ASSOCIATED WITH A MID TO UPPER LEVEL TROUGH, INTERACTINGWITH A MOIST AIRMASS ACROSS THE AREA.

SOME OF THESE SHOWERS WILL BE LOCALLY HEAVY AND THUNDERSTORMS STRONG TO SEVEREAT TIMES CAUSING STRONG GUSTY WINDS, DANGEROUS LIGHTNING, HEAVY DOWNPOURS,HAIL, AND POSSIBLE WATERSPOUT OR TORNADIC ACTIVITY. LOCALIZED FLOODING IS ALSOPOSSIBLE DURING THE PASSAGE OF THESE STORMS.

BOATERS IN THE WARNING AREA SHOULD HAVE ALREADY SOUGHT SAFE HARBOUR, WITHBOATERS IN THE WATCH AREAS BEGINNING THIS PROCESS. RESIDENTS IN THE WARNING ANDWATCH AREAS SHOULD REMAIN INDOORS AND AWAY FROM WINDOWS WHEN CONDITIONSWORSEN. RESIDENTS SHOULD NOT SEEK SHELTER UNDER TREES OR IN WATER AS THESE CANBECOME LIGHTNING CONDUCTORS.
