 A HURRICANE WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR THE ISLANDS OF GRAND BAHAMA, ABACO, BIMINI, AND THE BERRY ISLANDS.

 A HURRICANE WARNING MEANS THAT HURRICANE CONDITIONS COULD BE EXPERIENCED IN THE ABOVE-MENTIONED ISLANDS WITHIN 36 HOURS.

 A TROPICAL STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR THE ISLANDS OF ELEUTHERA, NEW PROVIDENCE AND ANDROS.

 A TROPICAL STORM WARNING MEANS THAT TROPICAL STORM CONDITIONS COULD BE EXPERIENCED IN THE ABOVE-MENTIONED ISLANDS WITHIN 36 HOURS.

 AT 4 AM EST, THE CENTER OF TROPICAL STORM NICOLE WAS LOCATED NEAR LATITUDE 26.6° DEGREES NORTH AND LONGITUDE 75.74° DEGREES WEST, OR ABOUT:

  • 75 MILES EAST OF HOPE TOWN, ABACO
  • 130 MILES EAST OF EAST END, GRAND BAHAMAS
  • 125 MILES NORTHEAST OF GOVERNOR’S HARBOUR ELEUTHRA
  • 145 MILES NORTHEAST OF NEW PROVIDENCE
  • AND 175 MILES NORTHEAST OF NICHOLL’S TOWN, ANDROS.

NICOLE IS MOVING TOWARD THE WEST-SOUTHWEST NEAR 13 MPH. A TURN TOWARD THE WEST IS EXPECTED TODAY, FOLLOWED BY A TURN TOWARD THE NORTHWEST ON THURSDAY AND NORTH OR NORTH-NORTHEAST ON FRIDAY. ON THE FORECAST TRACK, THE CENTER OF NICOLE WILL APPROACH THE NORTHWEST BAHAMAS THIS MORNING, MOVE NEAR OR OVER THOSE ISLANDS BY

MIDDAY. NICOLE IS EXPECTED TO MOVE ACROSS FLORIDA TONIGHT.

 MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE NEAR 70 MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS. SOME STRENGTHENING IS EXPECTED TODAY AND NICOLE IS FORECAST TO BECOME A HURRICANE NEAR THE NORTHWEST BAHAMAS AND REMAIN A HURRICANE WHEN IT REACHES THE EAST COAST OF FLORIDA TONIGHT.

 NICOLE IS A LARGE TROPICAL STORM. TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS EXTEND OUTWARD UP TO 460 MILES ESPECIALLY TO THE NORTH OF THE CENTER. A SUSTAINED GUST OF 36 MPH AND A GUST TO 51 MPH WERE REPORTED ON GREAT ABACO ISLAND DURING THE PAST COUPLE OF HOURS. A SUSTAINED WIND SPEED OF 41 MPH WAS RECENTLY REPORTED AT DANIA PIER IN SOUTHEASTERN FLORIDA.

 STORM SURGE COULD RAISEWATER LEVELS BY AS MUCH AS 4 TO 6 FEET ABOVENORMAL TIDE LEVELS ALONG THE IMMEDIATE COAST IN THE NORTHWEST BAHAMAS.

 LARGE SWELLS GENERATED BY NICOLE WILL AFFECT THE NORTHWEST BAHAMAS FOR THE NEXT SEVERAL DAYS. THESE SWELLS ARE LIKELY TO CAUSE LIFE-THREATENING SURF AND RIP CURRENT CONDITIONS.

 NICOLE IS EXPECTED TO PRODUCE RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF 3 TO 5 INCHES WITH LOCALIZED HIGHER AMOUNTS OF UP TO 8 INCHES ACROSS THE NORTHWEST BAHAMAS TODAY THROUGH FRIDAY.

 THE FORMATION OF WATERSPOUTS AND TORNADOS ARE POSSIBLE DURING THE PASSAGE OF NICOLE THROUGH THE BAHAMAS. BOATERS ARE ADVISED TO REMAIN IN PORT OR MOVE VESSELS TO SAFE HARBOUR.

 RESIDENTS, PARTICULARLY ON THE ISLANDSOF GRAND BAHAMA,ABACO, BIMINI AND THE BERRY ISLANDS SHOULD BE PREPARED FOR POSSIBLE HURRICANE CONDITIONS EXPECTED EARLY WEDNESDAY MORNING.

INTERESTS IN THE CENTRAL BAHAMAS SHOULD CONTINUE TO MONITOR THE PROGRESS OF NICOLE.
