Police now have two men in custody for questioning in connection with the shooting incident at the Governor's Harbour Police Station Saturday morning, Commissioner of Police Ellison Greenslade confirmed to The Nassau Guardian yesterday.
The commissioner also confirmed that officers have retrieved a firearm they suspect was used to shoot at the station in central Eleuthera.
Charges could be filed in connection with the shooting as early as today, according to Greenslade.
No police officers were harmed during the attack on the station.
Superintendent Elbert Ferguson, the officer in charge of the island, confirmed Tuesday that officers were in the station when someone opened fire on the building early Saturday morning.
Members of the Eleuthera community are in "fear of the police" as a result of the harsh measures taken by officers after the shooting, according to Governor's Harbour resident Patrice Ferguson.
She claimed that several of the men taken into custody for questioning regarding the shooting were beaten severely by police.
"They are putting fear into the young men," she said yesterday.  "No one is going to want to assist the police in any matters because they already put fear and inflicted pain in a lot of people.  The community is distraught."
Ferguson said one of her relatives was taken in for questioning by police in connection with the shooting.
Greenslade said he has not received any reports of police brutality in Governor's Harbour, but insisted he would have Deputy Commissioner Quinn McCartney, the officer in charge of internal affairs, look into the claims.
Ferguson also claimed that there were at least 18 men taken into custody in Governor's Harbour during the investigation.  She claimed several emerged from custody with injuries.
