In commemoration of 'Caribbean Wellness Day,' the Ministry of Health and Wellness held a mini health fair and exhibition on the grounds of the Ministry on Friday, 9th September. Executive Director with responsibility for health and wellness, Dr. Bridgette Rolle, said that the event was being held in historic Bain and Grant's town to promote healthy living and to bring more awareness about the dangers of non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure and cancer, which are prevalent in the country. She said events such as these are used as a regional response to these diseases which typically stem from poor diet and a sedentary lifestyle. A four-minute exercise routine was demonstrated by Fitness expert, Craig Walkine, to show how short spurts of exercise can be incorporated in different settings during the day. Also in attendance and participating in the exercise routine were: Senior Medical Officer and  Project Coordinator for Climate Change and Health, Dr. Calae Philippe and Podiatrist and Senior Health Systems Officer, Dr. Monique Mitchell. Caribbean Health day is celebrated every 2nd Saturday during the month of September.  This year's theme was "Power through collective action." The exhibition included health screenings, naturally made food and toiletry products, plants, and wellness products derived with natural methods.
