NASSAU, The Bahamas - The Ministry of Health and Wellness staged its first Climate Change and Youth Forum on Friday, August 19, 2022.

The one-day forum came on the heels of The Bahamas’ staging of the inaugural Caribbean Regional Heads of Government Meeting in Preparation for the United Nations Climate Change Conference of The Parties (COP27) earlier in the week at Baha Mar.

The objective of the youth forum was to sensitize and educate young people on Climate Change, and to provide some guidance especially for those who expressed interest in pursuing careers in the field.

Dr. Calae Philippe, Senior Medical Officer at the Ministry of Health and Wellness, welcomed the group, and underscored the historic importance of their being the first to participate in such a forum.

Among the presenters in-person and on Zoom were: Dr. William Hamilton, Climate Change and Health; Deon Gibson, Climate Change and Agriculture; Lashanti Jupp, Climate Change and the Blue Economy; Marjahan Finlayson, Climate Change and Education; Sumayyah Cargill, Climate Change and Finance and Tarran Simms, the Role of Youth in Promoting Climate Action.

The attendees participated in an interactive question and answer period during and after the presentations.  The forum was held at the Ministry of Health and Wellness headquarters on Meeting Street.
