A Severe Thunderstorm Warning In Effect For Abaco - Weather Watch for Berry Islands, Bimini, New Providence and Grand Bahama

THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY HAS ISSUED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING FROM 10:10 AM UNTIL 12:10 PM WEDNESDAY 29TH JUNE 2022.

A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR ABACO ALONG WITH ITS ADJACENT WATERS.

A SEVERE WEATHER WATCH IS IN EFFECT FOR THE BERRY ISLANDS, BIMINI, GRAND BAHAMA AND NEW PROVIDENCE ALONG WITH THEIR ADJACENT WATERS.

AT 10:05 AM,LIGHTNING DETECTION, RADAR AND SATELLITE IMAGERY DEPICTED LINES OF SHOWERS WITH EMBEDDED THUNDERSTORMS ASSOCIATED WITH DEEP LAYERED TROUGHING MOVING NORTHWARDS, TOWARD AND ACROSS THE WARNING AREAS.

SOME OF THESE THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE SEVERE AT TIMES CAUSING STRONG GUSTY WINDS, DANGEROUS LIGHTNING, HEAVY DOWNPOURS, HAIL AND POSSIBLE WATERSPOUT OR TORNADIC ACTIVITY. LOCALIZED FLOODING IS ALSO POSSIBLE DURING THE PASSAGE OF THESE STORMS.

BOATERS IN THE WARNING AREA SHOULD SEEK SAFE HARBOUR AND RESIDENTS IN THE WARNING AREA SHOULD STAY INDOORS AND AWAY FROM WINDOWS WHEN CONDITIONS WORSEN. BOATERS AND RESIDENTS IN THE WATCH AREAS SHOULD BE PREPARED TO TAKE QUICK ACTION SHOULD CONDITIONS WORSEN.  RESIDENTS SHOULD NOT SEEK SHELTER UNDER TREES OR IN WATER AS THESE CAN BECOME LIGHTNING CONDUCTORS.
