A Severe Thunderstorm Warning In Effect For New Providence , Grand Bahama and Abaco

THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY HAS ISSUED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING FROM 6:00 AM UNTIL 8:00 AM WEDNESDAY 29TH JUNE 2022.

A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING IS NOW IN EFFECT FOR NEW PROVIDENCE, GRAND BAHAMA AND ABACO, ALONG WITH THEIR ADJACENT WATERS.

A SEVERE WEATHER WATCH IS NOW IN EFFECT FOR THE BERRY ISLANDS AND BIMINI ALONG WITH THEIR ADJACENT WATERS.

AT 5:50 AM, LIGHTNING DETECTION, RADAR AND SATELLITE IMAGERY DEPICTED LINES OF SHOWERS WITH EMBEDDED THUNDERSTORMS ASSOCIATED WITH DEEP LAYERED TROUGHING MOVING NORTHWARDS, TOWARD AND ACROSS THE WARNING AREAS.

SOME OF THESE THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE SEVERE AT TIMES CAUSING STRONG GUSTY WINDS, DANGEROUS LIGHTNING, HEAVY DOWNPOURS, HAIL AND POSSIBLE WATERSPOUT OR TORNADIC ACTIVITY. LOCALIZED FLOODING IS ALSO POSSIBLE DURING THE PASSAGE OF THESE STORMS.

BOATERS IN THE WARNING AREAS SHOULD SEEK SAFE HARBOUR AND RESIDENTS IN THE WARNING AREAS SHOULD STAY INDOORS AND AWAY FROM WINDOWS WHEN CONDITIONS WORSEN. RESIDENTS SHOULD NOT SEEK SHELTER UNDER TREES OR IN WATER AS THESE CAN BECOME LIGHTNING CONDUCTORS.
