IN A MOVE to elevate its position in the global academic arena, Senator, Dr. Erecia Hepburn, President of the Bahamas Agriculture & Marine Science Institute (BAMSI) recently met with Eugene Newry, (Acting) Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to gain a better understanding of how to successfully negotiate partnerships and arrangements with international organisations. Mr. Newry is a career foreign service officer and has represented The Bahamas at a number of bilateral, international and summit meetings and conferences, including the United Nations General Assembly and the General Assembly of the Organisation of American States, the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC). Dr Hepburn indicated that because he is well versed in diplomate relations and crafting agreements on behalf of the Bahamas, Mr Newry was able to advise her on the proper drafting of a Memorandum of Understanding in an effort to develop a deeper relationship with lasting ties between BAMSI and other universities and organizations. Her goal, Dr Hepburn added, is that as BAMSI continues to partner with various agencies, the Institute will be able to solidify those agreements through an MOU for the benefit of both parties.
