Cruise to the Cure 2011

Fri, Jul 29th 2011, 11:18 AM

The Friends of Distinction Riders Club (FODRC) and the Antique Auto Club of The Bahamas (AACB) have come together to present the second annual “Cruise to the Cure”.

Cancer is a disease that has touched most Bahamians in some form or another. Additionally, the incidence of terminal cancer cases in The Bahamas is alarming and unacceptably high. It is with this backdrop that the aforementioned entities (FODRC and AACB) have teamed up with the Cancer Society of The Bahamas to bring awareness to and assist in the fight against what is a largely curable disease.

In our CTTC 2011 campaign, we have decided to give primary focus on screening and awareness of cancer in men, specifically prostate cancer. Prostate cancer is stealing many of our brothers at the stage of their lives when they should function as an asset to their families and thereby the country as a whole. Simply put, by the time a man acknowledges pain associated with cancer, it is usually too late!

Our objective is to change this reality.

Doctors Hospital has always been a loyal and consistent supporter of the programs and efforts of the Cancer Society of The Bahamas. We are especially pleased this year that Doctors Hospital has again joined us on the front line of the fight by providing special concessionary screening rates for the associated testing towards early detection. We are all aware that “early detection is your best protection!”

This initiative is a key element in the process, permitting and encouraging those who would ordinarily not be able to afford such screening, to now participate in this special promotion at Doctors Hospital.

So, how do you get involved in the “Cruise To The Cure”? The process is very simple!

On Sunday, 18th of September, 2011 all participants will meet at the Kelly’s Home Centre entrance at the Mall of Marathon.

  1. Registration begins @ 9:00am.
  2. Complete your registration form.
  3.  Submit your registration fee.
  4. Determine your rate of sponsorship per mile.
  5. You are now set to roll! The tour will leave the mall at 12:30pm.

Led by the Friends of Distinction Riders Club and the Antique Auto Club of The Bahamas, we hereby invite the entire community to join us as we cruise the streets of New Providence. Our road course master, Mr. Jim LaRoda, is designing a course which will be presented in short order. Now while there will be a significant amount of vintage and collectable motorbikes and automobiles on the cruise; the ordinary day to day driver is most welcomed.

We would also like to invite “Corporate Bahamas” to send down their company vehicles to join the cruise. Cancer survivors are especially invited to come, cruise and join us again on the front line.

Last year, the Cruise to the Cure was able to raise $8,000 to assist the Cancer Society of The Bahamas. We look forward to the assistance and involvement of the entire community as we work together in the fight against this dreaded disease.
