Zonta Club of New Providence and the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) representatives recently encouraged students of the Bahamas Technical and Vocational Institute (BTVI) to embrace the recreational side of tertiary education.

During an interactive virtual student involvement fair, Zonta Club of New Providence President, Marisa Mason-Smith and Small Business Development Center’s Project Manager, Darvin Russell, spoke on clubs that BTVI hopes to launch this semester. Ms. Smith elaborated on Zonta Club of New Providence’s pillars of mentorship and advocacy, while Mr. Russell gave insight on business funding and entrepreneurship readiness opportunities that will be linked to the SBDC’s imminent college club program.

The student involvement fair- organized annually by BTVI’s Student Services department - exposes students to an array of community service, leadership and networking opportunities. The institution is particularly pleased to have the support of civil society in the introduction of new opportunities for the growing student population because campus involvement has proven to help in BTVI student achievement, campus life and community development.

BTVI is also associated with the Rotary Club of Nassau Sunrise through its Rotaract Club and scholarship donations made by the service club to the institution. Other campus clubs include Student Christian Fellowship and Bahamas E-Sports Guild (BES-G), a gaming club. BTVI’s Grand Bahama campus is also set to launch public speaking and debate, entrepreneurship and cycling clubs this semester.

BTVI meets a variety of student interests by offering varied extracurricular activities. Although virtual for the second consecutive year, many students continue to take advantage of the various opportunities extended through campus club participation.
