Hurricane Sam Continues to Weaken

NEWS ITEMS ON HURRICANE SAM ISSUED BY THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY FORECAST OFFICE SECTION, AT 6:00 AM SUNDAY 03RD, OCTOBER 2021

...SAM CONTINUES TO WEAKEN AS IT MOVES NORTHEASTWARD OVER THE OPEN NORTH ATLANTIC...

...EXPECTED TO BECOME A LARGE AND POWERFUL POST-TROPICAL LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM ON MONDAY...

 AT 5:00 AM EDT, THE CENTER OF HURRICANE SAMWAS LOCATED NEAR LATITUDE 37.3° NORTHAND LONGITUDE 55.9° WEST OR ABOUT 665 MILES SOUTH-SOUTHWEST OF CAPE RACE, NEWFOUNDLAND.

SAM IS MOVING TOWARD THE NORTHEAST NEAR 17 MILES PER HOUR.   ON THE FORECAST TRACK, SAM WILL MOVE OVER THE FAR NORTH ATLANTIC WELL TO THE SOUTHEAST AND EAST OF NEWFOUNDLAND.

MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS HAVE DECREASED TO NEAR 105 MILES PER HOUR WITH HIGHER GUSTS.  Further weakening is forecast during the next few days, and Sam is expected transition into a powerful post-tropical cyclone on Monday.
