NEWS ITEMS ON TROPICAL STORM PETER ISSUED BY THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY FORECAST OFFICE SECTION, AT 12:00 PM TUESDAY 21ST, SEPTEMBER 2021

…PETER WEAKENING AS IT PASSES BY NORTH OF PUERTO RICO…

AT 11:00 AM AST, THE CENTER OF TROPICAL STORM PETER WAS LOCATED NEAR LATITUDE 19.9° NORTH AND LONGITUDE 64.7° WEST OR ABOUT 140 MILES NORTHEAST OF SAN JUAN PUERTO RICO OR ABOUT 430 MILES SOUTHEAST OF GRAND TURK, TURK AND CAICOS ISLANDS.

PETER IS MOVING TOWARD THE WEST-NORTHWEST AT ABOUT 9 MILES PER HOUR. ON THE FORECAST TRACK, THE CENTER OF PETER SHOULD MOVE WELL EAST OF THE SOUTHEASTERN BAHAMAS DURING THE NEXT FEW DAYS.

MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE NEAR 40 MILES PER HOUR WITH HIGHER GUSTS. ADDITIONAL WEAKENING IS FORECAST, AND PETER IS EXPECTED TO WEAKEN TO A TROPICAL DEPRESSION BY TONIGHT AND DEGENERATE A REMNANT LOW BY THURSDAY.
