Bahamian legendary track and field athlete Chris “The Fireman” Brown had considered giving it one more run, helping The Bahamas’ men’s 4×400 meters (m) team qualify for the Tokyo Olympic Games, but COVID-19 along with his coaching duties at Clayton State University in Morrow, Georgia, put a dent in that thought process and freed him up to pursue another venture. Now he is content to focus on the next phase of his athletic journey.
Brown has signed on with the Phenetix brand and is looking to bring that company’s unique sports apparel and equipment to The Bahamas, as early as this Christmas.
The Phenetix Urban Athletic Wear Co. specializes in sportswear, team banners, team tents and backpacks among other sports items and equipment and is based out of Kennesaw, Georgia, in the United States.
Brown said his partnership with the brand has been on the table for quite a while now and now that he has the time, he can divert more of his attention to it.
“I’m just trying to make sure Bahamians have a quality athletic product sold in The Bahamas,” he said. “We’ll be bringing in clothes, spikes, body suits, tennis, swimwear and other equipment that will enable athletes to function better.
“This has been out for a while and it’s been doing pretty good. A few colleges and clubs have come on board with us and it’s picking up steam.”
Already, the Leap of Faith Athletic Club, coached and managed by James Rolle, has adopted the Phenetix brand and has begun outfitting its athletes. The club is home to some of the top long, high and triple jumpers in The Bahamas.
“Leap of Faith was on board from 2019,” said Brown. “We would like to continue that relationship with them and encourage all sports clubs in The Bahamas to get on board with us. At this point, we just want to get it into the stores in The Bahamas and get it into the right hands and in the right places. I could definitely see it being one of the major brands in The Bahamas, the region and globally. We want the Bahamian public to be open and very supportive and be able to purchase what they need. This brand is all about providing affordable sportswear and sports items to the general public.”
