A Severe Thunderstorm Warning In Effect For Andros, Eleuthera and Exuma

THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY HAS ISSUED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH FROM 2:00 AM EST UNTIL 5:00 AM SUNDAY 07TH MARCH 2021.

A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR ANDROS, ELEUTHERA, CAT ISLAND, NORTHERN EXUMA CAYS AND THEIR ADJACENT WATERS.

AT 1:50 AM LIGHTNING DETECTION, RADAR AND SATELLITE IMAGERY DEPICTED LINES ALONG WITH A CLUSTER OF SHOWERS WITH EMBEDDED THUNDERSTORMS ASSOCIATED WITH AN AREA OF LOW PRESSURE, MOVING NORTHEASTWARD ACROSS AND TOWARDS THE WARNING AREAS.

SOME OF THESE THUNDERSTORMS MAY BECOME STRONG TO SEVERE AT TIMES CAUSING STRONG GUSTY WINDS, DANGEROUS LIGHTNING, HEAVY DOWNPOURS, HAIL AND POSSIBLE WATERSPOUT OR TORNADIC ACTIVITY. LOCALIZED FLOODING IS ALSO POSSIBLE DURING THESE STORMS.

BOATERS IN THE WARNING AREAS SHOULD SEEK SAFE HARBOUR AND RESIDENTS IN THE WARNING AREAS SHOULD STAY INDOORS AND AWAY FROM WINDOWS WHEN CONDITIONS WORSEN. RESIDENTS SHOULD NOT SEEK SHELTER UNDER TREES OR IN WATER AS THESE CAN BECOME LIGHTNING CONDUCTORS.
