A Severe Thunderstorm Watch In Effect For Andros, New Providence and Eleuthera

THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY HAS ISSUED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH FROM 12:00 AM EST UNTIL 2:00 AM SUNDAY 07TH MARCH 2021.

A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR ANDROS, NEW PROVIDENCE, NORTH AND CENTRAL ELEUTHERA AND THEIR ADJACENT WATERS.

A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH IS IN EFFECT FOR NORTHERN EXUMA CAYS, CAT ISLAND AND THEIR ADJACENT WATERS.

AT 11:59 PM LIGHTNING DETECTION, RADAR AND SATELLITE IMAGERY DEPICTED LINES ALONG WITH A CLUSTER OF SHOWERS WITH EMBEDDED THUNDERSTORMS ASSOCIATED WITH AN AREA OF LOW PRESSURE, MOVING NORTHEASTWARD ACROSS AND TOWARDS THE WARNING AND WATCH AREAS.

SOME OF THESE THUNDERSTORMS MAY BECOME STRONG TO SEVERE AT TIMES CAUSING STRONG GUSTY WINDS, DANGEROUS LIGHTNING, HEAVY DOWNPOURS, HAIL AND POSSIBLE WATERSPOUT OR TORNADIC ACTIVITY. LOCALIZED FLOODING IS ALSO POSSIBLE DURING THESE STORMS.

BOATERS IN THE WARNING AND WATCH AREAS SHOULD SEEK SAFE HARBOUR AND RESIDENTS IN THE WARNING AND WATCH AREAS SHOULD STAY INDOORS AND AWAY FROM WINDOWS WHEN CONDITIONS WORSEN. RESIDENTS SHOULD NOT SEEK SHELTER UNDER TREES OR IN WATER AS THESE CAN BECOME LIGHTNING CONDUCTORS.
