NEWS ITEM ON HURRICANE DELTA ISSUED BY THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY FORECAST OFFICE SECTION, AT 12PM FRIDAY, 9TH OCTOBER, 2020.

...CENTER OF DELTA MOVING NORTHWARD TOWARD THE SOUTHWEST LOUISIANA COAST… …EXPECTED TO BRING HURRICANE CONDITIONS AND A LIFE-THREATENING STORM SURGE TO PORTIONS OF THE NORTHERN GULF COAST TODAY…

AT 11AM EDT, THE CENTER OF HURRICANE DELTA WAS LOCATED NEAR LATITUDE 28.0° NORTH AND LONGITUDE 93.8° WEST OR ABOUT 130 MILES SOUTH-SOUTHWEST OF CAMERON LOUISANA.

DELTA IS MOVING TOWARD THE NORTH NEAR 13MPH (20KM/H). A TURN TOWARD THE NORTH-NORTEAST IS EXPECTED THIS AFTERNOON, FOLLOWED BY A NORTHEASTWARD MOTION DURING THE DAY ON SATURDAY. ON THE FORECAST TRACK, THE CENTER OF DELTA SHOULD MAKE LANDFALL ALON THE COAST OF SOUTHWESTERN LOUISIANA LATER THIS AFTERNOON OR THIS EVENING, AND THEN MOVE ACROSS CENTRAL AND NORTHEASTERN LOUISIANA TONIGHT AND SATURDAY MORNING.

MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE NEAR 115 MPH (185KM/H) WITH HIGHER GUSTS. DELTA IS A CATEGORY 3 HURRICANE ON THE SAFFIR-SIMPSON HURRICANE WIND SCALE. SLOW WEAKENING IS EXPECTED BEFORE LANDFALL, WITH RAPID WEAKENING EXPECTED AFTER THE CENTER MOVES INLAND.
