The Bahamas Department of Meteorlogy has issued a Severe Thunderstomr Warning effect from 11:45 AM EDT UNTIL 2:45 PM MONDAY, 21STSEPTEMBER, 2020.

A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR ELEUTHERA, NEW PROVIDENCE, THE BERRY ISLANDS, NORTH ANDROS AND BIMINI ALONG WITH THEIR ADJACENT WATERS.


AT 11:40 AM LIGHTNING DETECTION, RADAR AND SATELLITE IMAGERY DEPICTED SHOWED CLUSTERS OF MODERATE TO HEAVY SHOWERS WITH EMBEDDED THUNDERSTORMS ASSOCIATED WITH A FRONTAL BOUNDARY ACROSS THE NORTHWEST BAHAMAS MOVING SOUTHWARDS TOWARDS AND ACROSS THE MENTIONED AREAS.

SOME OF THESE THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE STRONG TO SEVERE AT TIMES CAPABLE OF PRODUCING STRONG GUSTY WINDS, DANGEROUS LIGHTNING, HEAVY DOWNPOURS, HAIL AND POSSIBLE WATERSPOUT OR TORNADIC ACTIVITY. LOCALIZED FLOODING IS ALSO POSSIBLE DURING THE PASSAGE OF THESE STORMS.

BOATERS IN THE WARNING AREAS SHOULD SEEK SAFE HARBOUR AND RESIDENTS IN THE WARNING AREAS SHOULD STAY INDOORS AND AWAY FROM WINDOWS AS CONDITIONS WORSEN. RESIDENTS SHOULD NOT SEEK SHELTER UNDER TREES OR IN WATER AS THESE CAN BECOME LIGHTNING CONDUCTORS.
