Grand Bahama Food Distribution-Statement by Senator The Hon. Kawasi Thompson

Fri, Aug 21st 2020, 08:11 PM

In keeping with the Government’s mandate to provide emergency food assistance for vulnerable Bahamians and residents impacted by COVID 19 pandemic, The Grand Bahama Food Task Force through Feed Grand Bahama program continues to assist those in need in the community.

Vouchers are being distributed every week. Yesterday we distributed approximately 1,000 vouchers to our Distribution Centers, Reach Out Ministries, Salvation Army, Red Cross and Jubilee Cathedral Calvary Temple.

We have expanded the distribution because of the increase in volume of applicants. Therefore, today we will be distributing another 2,000 vouchers to our Urban Renewal Centers who will be distributing throughout Grand Bahama.

Applicants who have not yet received any vouchers should be contacted by telephone or text, where and when they can collect their vouchers.

I want to thank Grand Bahamians for their patience and believe that this increase in distribution centers will assist in ensuring that residents receive their voucher.

The Feed Grand Bahama program to-date has assisted over 7,754 households representing approximately 31,016 residents throughout Grand Bahama.

We are encouraging Grand Bahamians who are in need of food assistance to register your household at www.feedgrandbahama.com.

We are pleased to announce the addition of local grocers Stop N Shop and Kross Town Convenience Store, and Westar to our list of supporting partners which include Solomon’s Food Store, Sawyer’s Fresh Market and Express Food Mart. As indicated by the Prime Minister, The Food Task Force is making every effort to preserve safety and dignity.

The Grand Bahama Task Force in keeping with the National Task Force has also implemented the needs based program that will help the most vulnerable. When you register, you are placed in 3 needs categories:

• Most Vulnerable

• Moderately Vulnerable

• Least Vulnerable

Assistance to these groups will be weekly, every other week, and once a month, respectively.

Once you have registered your household, the next step is verification of information and approval. Once approved, you are assigned a Distribution Center. Once vouchers are ready, your Distribution Call Center will contact you with your day and time of pick up. You are required to present an ID when collecting your voucher. We understand that some residents may have experienced some delay in receiving your voucher please contact our helpdesk by sending inquires to our WhatsApp 727-2473 or email us at feedgrandbahama@gmail.com
