Minister of State for Disaster Preparedness, Management and Reconstruction, the Hon. Iram Lewis (right) on Friday, August 21, toured the newly constructed Infectious Diseases Unit and the operating theatres at the Rand Memorial Hospital to see the progress.

The person installing the vinyl flooring, John Dukeshire (left) of Dukeshire Flooring, explained that he has been working on the flooring for the past six weeks and should be finished next week.

No stranger to The Bahamas, Mr. Dukeshire has installed the same quality of flooring in most of the medical facilities in the country and added that with the proper maintenance, the flooring should last at least 20 years.

The Infectious Diseases Unit will house seven patients in isolation and has facilities for staff to shower and be sanitized. Minister Lewis said it is expected the unit will be ready for occupancy before the end of September. (BIS Photo/Lisa Davis)
