Severe Weather Warning Update

The Bahamas Department of Meteorology has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning from 4:00 PM EDT until 6:00 PM EDT TUESDAY 26TH MAY, 2020.

A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING IS NOW IN EFFECT FOR ALL OF WESTERN, GRAND BAHAMA AND ADJACENT WATERS.

A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR EAST END, GRAND BAHAMA AND ADJACENT WATERS.

AT 3:55 PM LIGHTNING DETECTION, RADAR AND SATELLITE IMAGERY SHOWED TWO LINES OF THUNDERSTORMS ASSOCIATED WITH A DEEP LAYERED TROUGH MOVING NORTH-NORTHEAST TOWARD AND OVER THE MENTIONED AREAS.

SOME OF THESE THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE SEVERE AT TIMES CAUSING STRONG GUSTY WINDS, DANGEROUS LIGHTNING, HEAVY DOWNPOURS, HAIL AND POSSIBLE WATERSPOUT OR TORNADIC ACTIVITY. LOCALIZED FLOODING IS ALSO POSSIBLE DURING THE PASSAGE OF THESE STORMS.

BOATERS IN THE WARNING AREA SHOULD SEEK SAFE HARBOUR AND RESIDENTS IN THE WARNING AREA SHOULD STAY INDOORS AND AWAY FROM WINDOWS WHEN CONDITIONS WORSEN. RESIDENTS SHOULD NOT SEEK SHELTER UNDER TREES OR IN WATER AS THESE CAN BECOME LIGHTENING CONDUCTORS
