Bahamas celebrates Independence weekend with seven medals

The Bahamas won seven medals at the NACAC Under-23 Championships in Miramar, Florida. This was the fourth edition of the meet which started as the NACAC Under-25 Championships in Monterrey, Mexico, in 2000. NACAC is comprised of some thirty two countries from North America, Central America, and the Caribbean.

Winning Silver medals were Bianca Stuart in the Long Jump with a 6.42m effort. Anguilla's Sharon Proctor edged Stuart by a hundredth of a meter with a 6.43m jump. Keythra Richards placed seventh with a 5.67m performance.

On the final evening of the championships the men's 4x400m relay team of LaToy Williams, Demetrius Pinder, Jamal Butler, and La'Sean Pickstock finished second to the United States in a 3:02.91 clocking. The United States team set a new championships record of 2:58.83.

On the first evening Demetrius Pinder, the BTC National Open Champion ran 45.90sec to finish third in the final. LaToy Williams finished sixth in 46.67sec.

Photo: courtesy of Track Alerts. The Women's 4x100m relay team of Charlesa Lightbourne, Yanique Clarke, Ashley Hanna, and Michelle Cumberrbatch won the Bronze medal in a time of 46.82sec. The USA captured the Gold medal in 43.07sec.

Jamal Wilson cleared 2.13m for the Bronze medal in the High Jump.

Triple Jumper Jevente Deveaux leaped to a Bronze medal with a 15.55m jump. Antillo Bastian jumped 14.92m for fourth place. Christian Taylor of the USA claimed victory with a 16.66m effort.

On the comeback trail after an injury several years ago was Nathan Arnett who clocked 51.16sec in the 400m Hurdles for fourth place. Jeffrey Gibson finished in seventh place with a 52.43sec clocking.

Jeshua Anderson from the USA clocked 49.33sec for the victory.

In the Women's 800m Shelleyka Rolle ran 2:13.40, a personal best to finish fifth. Ramona Nicholls, the BTC National Open Champion placed sixth in 2:14.58.

Jessica Smith of the USA won the event in a time of 2:04.96.

The team of Ashley Hanna, Michelle Cumberbatch, Yanique Clarke, and Shelleyka Rolle ran 3:45.51 to finish fifth in the Women's 4x400m relay.

Thee event was won by the USA in 3:29.80.
