In a world that has been turned upside down by the Covid-19 virus, Paradise Island Lighthouse & Beach Club Co. Ltd. wishes to extend gratitude to the front line workers who are doing an amazing job in keeping us and our loved ones safe.

Paradise Island Lighthouse & Beach Club Co. Ltd. is an all Bahamian owned and operated company from Nassau, The Bahamas.

Located at the entrance to Nassau’s harbor, the Paradise Island Lighthouse has sat as a silent sentinel of the sea since construction was completed in 1817. Dilapidated and deteriorating it has stood out for decades as one of the first things you entering Nassau’s Harbour.

Rich in Bahamian history this iconic landmark is about to see a complete restoration and the development of a world class Beach Club, complete with modern amenities, fascinating natural environment and with close proximity to downtown Nassau; just a few minutes boat ride across the harbour.

Proprietor of the project Mr. Toby Smith embarked on this project in 2012 and has arrived at milestones along the way.

“I am happy to advise that so far we have received from the Government of the Bahamas a Memorandum of Understanding and an approved Crown Land Lease Agreement”. “We are optimistic that we shall have our building permits and other ancillary approvals in the very near future, so once this pandemic has passed we can begin the bricks and mortar stage”. “Full finances remain in place and we are ready to employ the all-Bahamian construction team and begin.”

Throughout the incubation period of this project we have carefully considered each facet to develop it in an eco-sensitive manner and with sustainable practices. We are proud that we have the buy-in from the Bahamas National Trust, ReEarth (a leading Bahamian environmental group), The Elbow Reef Lighthouse Society, Abaco, The Bahamas and many, many other local and international individuals and groups. “We appreciate the support and look forward to delivering a fantastic product.”

Once complete, this project shall offer historical tours of the Paradise “Hog” Island Lighthouse and immerse our visitors in our rich Bahamian history and culture far beyond the lighthouse itself and through the ages. The Discovery of the New World by Columbus landing in San Salvador, The Bahamas, their predecessors of native tribes and the eras of wrecking, piracy, sponging, rum running and tourism.

The Lighthouse and Keepers’ Quarters will be restored to its former glory and decorated as original era-specific.

The Lighthouse shall offer the experience of Keeper for the evening and assist in turning on the lantern and offer privacy to its guests for moments such as engagements and romance at a whole new level.

We envision unique experiences to include whisking your significant other away from your hotel’s dock by go-fast boat in the middle of the night to arrive at the Lighthouse’s door, open to receive you with a bottle of champagne on ice to set the stage of a lifelong memory. Yachts being able to dock at our facilities to extend their vacation experience to a night at the Lighthouse, when the time is right for “afterhours” fun to begin. The possibilities are endless and we look forward to working with movie producers and film crews not only to cover the restoration and development phases of the project but beyond that to have an amazing setting that we can transport people to through the big screen. We shall also continue to work closely with Bahamas’ Ministry of Tourism to have this on the tip of their tongues in bringing international exposure to this historic site for model shoots, music videos, promotional videos, movie sets, commercials and so much more. We are thinking out of the box and from the beach!

We believe the success of this project will be by creating a social gathering place for Bahamians and our guests to enjoy and connect with Bahamian people in natural beauty from both the ocean and terrain surroundings. The beach is massive and there will be lots of room for everyone to enjoy. Full food and drink menus will be available as well as local music and fantastic entertainment.

We are proud of our Bahamian culture and wish to engage our visitors and immerse them in a fun, safe experience for the whole family. Whether it be savoury “peas n rice” on your taste buds or Junkanoo music resonating through your ears, we wish to create an idyllic experience where you get to relax and sip on a cool tropical drink and do as much or as little as you wish.

Simple and tastefully furnished hideaway beach cabanas will be just a dune away from the ocean and quietly nestled to be surrounded by natural, virgin, native coppice away from crowds. As you enjoy the peace and quiet and relaxing massage, ocean air and warm, tropical breeze.

Ferry boats shall transport guests safely back and fourth to town from the Lighthouse dock or Beach Club dock. Our staff will greet you with a smile and exceptional Bahamian hospitality to engage you and fulfill your experience.

You will be able to reserve your own private “dining on a dune” experience for a romantic dinner or private celebration complete with private waiter, tiki torches will guide your path, while a bonfire lights the star filled night.

“Bahamian nights” will cater to cruise ships that remain in port at night and an escape for land-based guests to provide for an intimate dining experience with locally produced indigenous flavours. The atmosphere will build with local bands and entertainment.

The Beach Club shall be a small village, the docks will be located on the harbor side of the development and within the calm waters of the harbor which will mitigate interruption from inclement sea conditions. As you walk through nature to the village setting lots of natural shade will enhance the experience as you pass shops of Bahamian architecture and colour palette. An artist residency program will be housed there to exhibit and showcase local talent of many art mediums.

We see an expanding market of visitors looking for historical tourism and yearning for the experience of local culture and we hope to exceed expectations with our project. We are in close collaboration with other such local, cultural and historical experiences and it is our hope to collectively attract interested visitors through the islands of the Bahamas.

May the light shine on
