The Caribbean Bottling Company (CBC) will once again award a graduating Garvin Tynes Primary School student with the Carleton Williams Scholarship. The six year award will allow the recipient to pursue their studies at the private high school of their choice. Several past scholarship awardees returned to their alma mater, recently, to share their high school experiences, what winning the scholarship has meant to them, and to share any advice that they can with the graduating sixth graders, as they prepare to start a new charter in their academic journey.
Kennedi Knowles, who was awarded the Carleton Williams Scholarship in 2018, as well as brothers and 2016 recipients, D’Ron & T’Ron Strapp, attended a special assembly hosted at the Garvin Tynes Primary School grounds on March 9. Each student shared a bit about the realities of high school, answered questions, and encouraged the young students to apply for the scholarship if they had an interest in attending a private high school.
The CBC Carleton Williams Scholarship was created to celebrate the work of Carleton Williams, who contributed greatly to the advancement of the Caribbean Bottling Company as well as his community. The academic scholarship rotates annually between New Providence and Grand Bahama, and awards one graduating public primary school student seeking to attend a private high school. In addition to Knowles and the Strapp brothers, the list of CBC scholars include 2018 recipient Anajah Culmer, 2017 recipient K. Kaiya Pinder, and 2019 awardee Gabriel Hall.
Garvin Tynes Primary School 6th graders can apply for the Carleton Williams Scholarship by visiting www.cbcbahamas.com. Applicants must be Bahamian citizens, present a need of financial assistance, have a 3.0 GPA or above, show evidence of involvement in community and extra-curricular activities, be able to attend the required candidate interviews and have an acceptance letter from their chosen private school.
