In the wake of increased violence among the youth of our nation, The Ministry of Education (MOE) has and will continue to ensure that its schools are as safe as possible. With these regrettable incidents of violence, the public can be assured that the Ministry is always postured for an immediate response with the intent to minimize negative outcomes.

The MOE can confirm that on January 7th, 2020, three male students of the C.V. Bethel Senior High School were involved in a stabbing incident. Two of them were transported to the Princess Margaret Hospital to receive treatment. The alleged assailant was taken into police custody and is assisting police with investigations.

This unfortunate incident acts as a clarion call for citizens to realize that creating a safe environment for our youth is not solely the responsibility of the MOE; but rather it is the duty of parents and every member of the wider community. As a collective, we can mitigate against these egregious acts by teaching our youth to resolve conflicts via peaceful alternatives.
